The basics

Three ways to get photos on your TV

iPhone to TV, Mac to TV, or a family Shared Album through a Mac. Pick what suits your household.

Every flow ends the same way: your photos play on the Apple TV. They only differ in how the photos get there.

1. iPhone to TV

The simplest setup, and no computer is needed.

  1. Install Aardy on the Apple TV and Aardy for iPhone on your phone.
  2. Open Aardy on the phone, pick your TV, and choose Photos albums.
  3. Send them. The TV keeps the photos, so they keep playing when the phone leaves the house.

Good for: one or two TVs and a phone with the albums you care about.

2. Mac to TV

Best for bigger libraries and for the whole house. Aardy for Mac holds your library and serves every TV.

  1. Install Aardy on the Mac and open the manager in your browser.
  2. Add your photos from folders, a network drive (NAS), an external drive, or a Photos album.
  3. Build packs, pair your TVs, and assign packs to them.

Good for: lots of photos, several TVs, fixing dates and places, 4K enhancement, music and weather. Windows is coming soon.

3. Family Shared Albums to Mac to TV

Everyone in the family can add to the same screen, from anywhere.

  1. In Photos on your Mac, create an iCloud Shared Album and invite your family. Turn on Subscribers Can Post.
  2. In Aardy for Mac, add that album as a source and put it in a pack.
  3. Assign the pack to your TVs. When anyone adds a photo, Aardy picks it up on its next sync.

Family members do not need Aardy, an account, or to be on your Wi-Fi.

Note: Apple stores Shared Album photos at about 2048 pixels. They look sharp on an HD screen and a little softer on a large 4K one. Aardy can enhance them on the Mac.

Mixing them

You can combine all three. An iPhone paired with a Mac keeps its albums in sync on the Mac, which then serves every TV even when your phone is away.
