Aardy Manager (Mac)

Manager troubleshooting

Fixes for unreachable folders, albums that will not sync, a lost password and more.

The TV cannot find the Mac

Start with Troubleshooting your network. As a fallback, enter the address on the TV by hand (Settings, then Mac). The address to use is under How TVs reach this Mac in Settings.

A source folder says Unreachable

The Mac could not see that folder at its last scan, usually because a network drive or external disk is not mounted. Imports pause but photos already imported keep playing. Mount the drive and it resumes at the next scan, or choose Scan now. On a shared Mac it can also mean the folder belongs to a user who is not the one serving right now.

A Photos album says Other user, or will not sync

An album belongs to the Mac user whose Photos library holds it. On a Mac shared with all users it syncs only while that user's copy of Aardy is serving. Hover over a warning mark for the reason; Photos access is not granted means switching Aardy on under System Settings, then Privacy & Security, then Photos.

A photo looks soft on the TV

It may be smaller than the screen. Look for a Low-res badge, and check that enhancement is on in Settings and in the pack's settings.

A change did not show up on the TV

Use Reload packs on the TV's row in Apple TVs. If photos look stale, use Clear cache & reload.

The menu says Another Aardy library is at…

There are two libraries on this Mac, and the other one's photos are not being served. This happens when a library was left in ~/Pictures after the Mac switched to a shared library. Click the warning to show it in Finder.

Aardy server running in another session

That is normal on a shared Mac: another user's copy is serving. Open Aardy Photo Server… still works from this account.

The admin password is lost

Do not delete the library. The password is stored in the library database, along with everything else. Quit Aardy, clear just the password, and reopen Aardy. The manager then asks you to set a new one. The steps are in the User Guide on the website, or contact support and we will walk you through it.

Anyone on your network can set the password in the moment before you do, so set it straight away.

Logs

The server writes aardvark-ss.log in the library folder. It rotates at 2 MB, keeping three older copies. Send it to support if we ask.
