Aardy Manager (Mac)
Backups, updating and going back
Back up and restore your settings, update Aardy safely, and roll back after an update.
Settings, then Backup & restore keeps copies of everything Aardy knows: packs, paired TVs, metadata edits, playlists, weather cities and the admin login.
Automatic backups
Aardy saves one before every update that changes its database, and one before every restore, so a restore can be undone. It keeps the last five of each.
Back up now
Back up now saves a copy on the Mac. Tick Include photos & sounds to copy the imported photo files too. That makes a much bigger file, and you only need it to move to a new Mac.
Backups kept on the Mac live in the Backups folder inside the library folder. They are not encrypted.
Download a backup
Download… saves a backup somewhere else, such as a USB drive or a cloud folder. You choose a password of at least 10 characters and the file is encrypted with it.
Important: Aardy cannot recover this password. Without it, the file cannot be restored.
Restore
Restore from file… takes a downloaded .aardybackup file. Aardy shows when it was made, asks for its password, then offers to restore it. A restore happens the next time Aardy launches. Restart now does that for you when Aardy runs as a login item. Otherwise quit Aardy from the menu-bar icon and open it again.
Updating Aardy
- Quit Aardy from its menu-bar icon.
- Replace Aardy.app in Applications with the new version.
- Open it again.
Your library, packs, pairings and settings are kept, because they live in the library folder, not in the app.
Going back after an update
- Open Settings, then Backup & restore. The newest automatic backup is labeled Before upgrade to v….
- Choose Restore…, then Restore at next launch.
- To go back to the older Aardy.app as well, quit Aardy, put the old app back in Applications, and open it. The restore is applied as it starts.
An older Aardy refuses a backup made by a newer one. Restore the automatic Before upgrade backup, which the older version made.
