Aardy for Apple TV

The big screen, filled with your memories

Aardy is the app on the Apple TV that plays your photos: slow, cinematic, with quiet sound and captions that say when and where. $4.99 once. No subscription, no account.

Your photos fill the screen, with a caption for the date and place. Shown with a sample photo.

It works the moment you install it

Two nature packs are built in, Nature 1 (Scenes & Landscapes) and Nature 2 (Plants & Animals), so you can see Aardy working right away with no computer and no setup. Then make it yours: send albums from your iPhone, or serve your whole library from your Mac.

Say when and where

Each photo can carry a small caption in the corner of the screen: the date, the place and the landmark. You choose which to show, the order, and where they sit. You can also write your own labels, like “Grandma’s 80th.”

The weather has its own screen. Swipe down on the Siri Remote and you get the clock and the current weather and forecast for your cities. Swipe left and right to change city. It closes by itself after a minute.

The story behind a photo

Click the Siri Remote and an info panel opens over the photo. It shows the pack it belongs to, the date, place and landmark, when it was captured, the camera and lens, the exposure, the size, and whether it’s a Live Photo. Facts the photo doesn’t have are simply left out.

Settings, right on the TV

Press and hold the clickpad to open Settings. Changes save when you leave, so there is no Save button. With a Mac, these control that one TV:

  • Packs: turn packs on or off for this TV, put them in order, filter a pack by year, place or tag, and play them one after another or mixed together.
  • Display: override a pack’s transition, time per photo, portrait handling, Live Photos, date, location and label captions, and where they sit.
  • Sound: choose the ambient sound and volume, and trim the volume for this room only.
  • Weather: choose which city comes first.
  • Don’t Interrupt: choose apps Aardy must never cut into.
  • Mac and iPhones: choose which Mac serves this TV, or manage the photos your iPhones have sent.

Switch packs any time

Build the Halloween pack, the summer pack and the grandkids pack once, then switch between them from the couch. Turn one on, turn another off, or mix several together. See packs for every season and every reason, and Pack design for how each choice plays on the TV.
